New Philadelphia maternity and baby shop

Marisa Piccarreto is, one could say, a baby expert. She not only has three little ones of her own, but she’s also a doula, and, for the past three years, she has run My Fabulous Mama, a baby consulting service.

A baby consulting service?

Yeah, we, too, had our doubts — but spend five minutes talking to Marisa and it all becomes very clear: She helps busy parents get their sh&* together before and after baby arrives — kind of like a really knowledgeable best friend, or a parent-focused personal assistant. The types of invaluable services she provides: navigating the childcare conundrum (whether that be helping to find the right nanny, sitter, or daycare); helping with registries (Ergo or Bjorn? UppaBaby or City Mini? Marisa knows!); and then fun stuff like nursery design. Prices range from $80 to $100 an hour, depending on scope of project.

And now, she’s got an adorable boutique filled with all of her favorite things on South and 16th.

For those expecting and nursing, there are super-stylish maternity winter coats, nursing bras (including some cool new hands-free pump bras that one can actually wear as everyday bras, making pumping that much easier), nursing tanks, maternity blouses, and skincare. (Things we all know are much needed around these parts.)

A super sweet (and well-priced) selection of baby clothes include insanely cute striped leggings with animal faces on the bums from Blade & Rose, velvet-y footies from Coccoli and KicKee Pants, plus those all things we seem to always need more of — tights, hair bows, baby socks, and cozy hoodies. Oh, and Marisa’s mom is a master knitter, and you’ll also find the sort of one-of-a-kind sweaters you wish your mom made.

The toy selection is stocked with brain-building, non-battery toys like puzzles, playhouses, musical instruments and art projects from reliable brands we love — Melissa & Doug, Plan Toys, and more.

Marisa says we can also expect more brands like Citizens of Humanity, Ingrid and Isabel, and Nununu in the spring.

Location: 1610 South Street; you can reach Marisa at 215-970-3020.
