Bryn Mawr resident Jen Rodack does so much more than just raise her kids Ryan (age 10) and Sophia (age 7). She realized that despite the fact that CHOP provides care for families of young children, there wasn’t a fundraiser tailored to that exact group. So she and her husband Jon created Cheers for CHOP, which is basically a kick-ass party with food, drinks and some amazing live music. This year the performers are Salt-N-Pepa! Yes, the “push it real good!” Salt-N-Pepa! The event is on Saturday at the Valley Forge Casino and tickets are still available. Best part? 100% of the proceeds go towards a hospital program that fosters therapeutic play. (The first year they raised an amazing $400,000.) When Jen and Jon aren’t spreading the good word, they are hanging on the Main Line with their kids. Here, some of their favorite spots.
Favorite park: Gladwyne Park.
Favorite snacks: Turkey jerkey from Whole Foods, the chocolate fondue dessert at Azie in Villanova and seaweed from MOMs Organic Market in Bryn Mawr. (Note to Wee readers: There’s a MOMs opening near Market East later this year.)
Favorite cold weather activity: Painting pottery at Color Me Mine in Wayne, followed by a nice meal at Christopher’s.
Hidden gem: Three Bears Park in Society Hill. I used to go there with my son when we lived in the city, and we’d meet up with people I met at Hall Mercer. We are all still good friends today. We love to go there when we are in the city.
Rainy day go-to: Get Air in King of Prussia.
Favorite toy store: Pun’s Toy Shop in Bryn Mawr.
Favorite kid-friendly restaurant: Ruby’s in Suburban Square.
Cannot live without: My Keurig coffee machine and La Bailarina Spanish roast from Whole Foods.
Favorite workout: Bikram Yoga Wynnwood.
Favorite place to get a kid or baby gift: Down 2 Earth Kids in Lafayette Hill.
Favorite kid classes: Liberty Me Dance Center in Bryn Mawr. Megan and Leigh are so passionate about what they do. Sophia also does drama at Musical Training Center in Ardmore. Chad is her teacher and he is amazing with the kids.
One thing I wish Philly had that it doesn’t: Warm weather all year round. I hate being cold!
Favorite part of living here with my kids is … the wide range of activities the city has to
