Need some motivation to get your sweat on? Would some drop-in, no-hassle, totally legit, affordable (and fun!) childcare help? Fitness studios and gyms that have babysitting hold a special place in our hearts. The kids get to play, you get in shape — never has a situation been so win-win. Here, some reliable spots in Center City.
Gyms with Drop-in Babysitting
Where: The Queen Village Sweat Fitness
Details: This is only Sweat in the city that has a daycare, and it’s well-used. The drop-in Kid’s Club is located in a spacious second floor room filled with a million toys, art supplies, a TV, and has kind sitters. There are windows so parents can peek in without being spotted. They’ll take babies as young as 6 months, but you should note that it’s their policy to not change diapers. Bonus: They are usually open on snow days and holiday too.
Hours: They have morning to lunchtime hours every weekday and Saturday, plus evening hours on Mondays and Wednesdays. Check out the kid’s club and group training schedule here.
Price: $10 per kid per hour (one hour limit) or sign up for the special deal — $30 for the month gets you as many days as you want.
Where: Philadelphia Sports Clubs (Society Hill and Fairmount locations)
Details: Two of the three Center City PSC locations have drop-in childcare — and an options for non-members too. They’ll take kids aged three months to 10 years. At both places there are separate rooms with toys and TVs.
Hours: At Society Hill location there are sitters everyday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. At Rodin Place (near Fairmount Whole Foods): Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Price: $10 per hour or $40 for the month.
Where: LifeSport Fitness
Details: This Fairmount gym has a bright childcare room with games and toys. Parents can see what their little ones are up to by peeking at the monitor at the front desk.
Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Saturdays, 8:45 a.m. 11:30 a.m., Sundays, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Price: $7 per child, with no time limit.
Where: Christian Street YMCA
Details: Part of the Y’s mission is all about family time, so it’s not surprising that the Christian Street branch has (besides pre-schools, swim lessons, mommy groups, youth sports…) a great drop-in daycare for kids aged three months and up with lots of hours. If your child is aged 7 – 12, they can swim with supervision.
Hours: There are morning (and some evening) hours everyday but Sunday.
Price: Free (!!) with a full time membership.
