weekend catch up philly news

All hail the hot-dog princess.

The New York Times weighs in on the 25 best dishes to cook for new parents.

Your happy, feel-good, the-world-ain’t-so-terrible moment for the day.

Dino lovers (and parents of dino lovers), take note! Dinosaurs Unearthed is back at the Academy of Natural Sciences starting on June 25!

Also upcoming: The third annual kid party, Kidchella, a 3-concert series, kicks off next Friday, June 17, with a concert in Smith Memorial Playground. Tickets are $10 per person (children 1+ and adults) or $5 for Smith members. Details here! (PS. There will be food trucks!)

How great is this? Sweat Fitness is inviting kids to join their dads at the gym this Father’s Day (June 19) for Dad and Me classes. Kids 6 and up can take any group exercise class dad (excluding cycling), while kids under 6 can attend the in-house childcare at Queen Village and Conshy locations for free. Good for members and non-members.

And speaking of Father’s Day: Nest is going to rock it out with a celebratory dad-and-me scavenger hunt in the play space from 10 to noon on Saturday the 18th. There’ll also be free pretzels and raffles for awesome prizes. More details here!

And this is news for TODAY: The Kimmel Center is hosting its Sixth Annual Organ Day – a FREE six-hour celebration of the Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ with programs for all ages in Verizon hall from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  “Fred” is the largest mechanical pipe organ in a concert venue in the United States and throughout the day, audience members of all ages are invited to explore the magnificent instrument through silent film, jazz, opera, recitals and more. It’s a really cool event.

Here’s a helpful round-up of great natural cleaners from The Cut. (Although, the laundry detergent is in pod-form, which are widely viewed as a no-no for those of us with kids.)
