Well, here we are, y’all — the time of year we all need to be locking down those remaining summer weeks we don’t have sorted out yet. Camps are filling up super fast, but we’re happy to tell you that one of the popular favorites of parents and kids alike —  Philly Art Center — still has slots open in all three of its locations (Fairmount, Queen Village and Cherry Hill). And the programming for both kids and tweens this year sounds awesome.

If you haven’t experienced camp at one of the Philly Art Center outposts, you almost definitely know someone who has — and so you also probably know that parents rave over everything about it. The programming is thoughtful and creative; the instructors are nurturing and enthusiastic, and experts in both fine arts and kiddos; and the campers come home adorably excited about their creations and about what they’re learning. Also? Philly Art Center camps run June through August (in other words — ALL SUMMER), and they offer 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. extra-care options for just $2.50 an hour. (Bonus: You needn’t even worry about booking the before- or after-care until the first morning of camp.) From a parent’s perspective, you can’t really beat the convenience.

The kids, meantime, are grouped by age, and get to work with and learn about a wide range of 2- and 3-D media. The weekly themes the Center plans each year are truly cool, and this summer is no exception. During “Warhol’s Factory + Other Hip Hangouts” week, for example, the kids will learn about pop-art screen printing from the Factory and painting with the East Hampton group of Abstract Expressionists. And during Dwell In + Out of Architecture week, they’ll get to work with beehive design and also become mini urban planners, designing a collective paper city. (How rad does that sound?!)

Each week of camp incorporates either a visiting artist, a special event, or a trip to a local museum that’s tied to the week’s curriculum. There’s also daily playground time for an altogether full, fun, well-rounded week.
